This two-day workshop will focus on the foundational elements that are essential to successful outcomes for bilingual individuals who use AAC including vocabulary selection, language acquisition, language representation, motor automaticity and communication partner instruction. Intervention strategies to promote bilingual language development, including how to support maintenance of the home language, will be provided. Participants will receive hands-on training to learn Unidad, a robust Spanish/English bilingual AAC language system.

Presenters:
Deborah Witkowski, MA, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist with 35 years of experience specializing in AAC and assistive technology. She is an employee-owner of PRC-Satillo where she is a training and implementation specialist for the Minspeak Academy, providing educational opportunities to support families and professionals working with individuals with complex communication needs. She is a developer of the UNIDAD software. Deborah also provides clinical services in a small private practice.

Tracy M. Kovach PhD, CCC-SLP has 30+ years of experience supporting individuals using AAC. She has worked in public schools, hospitals, outpatient clinics; taught AAC and related disabilities courses; and, is a former associate professor at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She has professional involvement in state, country, and international organizations; has presented nationally and internationally; and, is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Fellow. Dr. Kovach lives in Denver, Colorado; is in private practice; and is a consultant to PRC-Saltillo.

Daniel Dardiz, MA, CCC-SLP is a bilingual speech-language pathologist with 25 years of experience. Daniel’s clinical experience includes providing diagnostic and therapy services in the public schools as well as private practice. His areas of interests focused on working with children and adolescents with special needs, particularly individuals who needed the support of Augmentative and Alternative Communication as well as Bilingual Interventions. For the past 10 years, Daniel has served as a consultant with PRC-Saltillo in Florida.
