As the old adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Imagine how helpful it would be to actually see the words being used and the progress being made by people who use a speech-generating devices (e.g., NovaChat®, ChatFusion™). This course offers one possible approach to help visualize such data through the use of data logging and Realize Language, a subscription-based web tool. Participants will learn the what, why, and how of data logging, an available feature within Saltillo’s Chat Software and the TouchChat® application. This will include a discussion about how to use Realize Language in order to visualize and communicate the information in a more efficient and meaningful way. Case study examples will be used to illustrate how visualizing the data can have positive impacts on team communication, intervention planning, and progress monitoring. The discussion will include ideas for putting it into practice as well as identifying possible barriers and benefits of using data logging.
