id you know that Alexa understands AAC? This class will show you how to use your PRC-Saltillo speech-generating device with Alexa to increase device use and independence. Alexa responds to voice…any voice. It is likely that your AAC device already has a preprogrammed Alexa page with existing buttons for interacting with Alexa AND the ability to customize your buttons to create your own desired Alexa commands!

You will learn the basics of how Alexa works by:

• identifying three ways AAC devices can be used to interact with Alexa to increase motivation and independence
• identifying two strategies for programming AAC devices to more successfully interact with Alexa
• determining three Alexa skills that AAC users can use to increase communication and control over their environment

This session is designed for SLPs, Occupational Therapists, Assistive Technology Specialists, Education Professionals, Parents, Caregivers, and anyone who wants to learn how to use their speech-generating device with Alexa. Examples will be shared using Saltillo's NovaChat, but the tips, tricks, and strategies are applicable to ANY speech-generating devices.
