The seminar focuses on supporting individuals who have aphasia as they learn to use Speech Generating Devices as a part of an Augmentative Alternative Communication system. The focus will be on the importance of relevant programming and individualization and approaches to teaching them to use SGD's in daily life.

Learning Outcomes: You will be able to:

  • Prioritize and individualize content within the individual's SGD to successfully augment participation-based communication.
  • Identify and feel comfortable implementing teaching strategies to increase the functional use of an SGD device to augment participation-based communication.
  • Understand the importance of communication partner training as a component of a successful plan of care for a person using an SGD.
