Alternative Access Methods for Dynamic Display Devices

Posted on 2012-09-27 14:04:23 by Admin under News

Check out this video from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.  They do a great job explaining some of the different ways you can access a dynamic display device.

Children with motor impairments can access dynamic display devices in a variety of ways. Any time a motor impairment is present, it is necessary to obtain an AAC evaluation by both a speech language pathologist and an occupational therapist to determine the best access method. Access methods may include use of a head-mouse, switch scanning or eye control. Video by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

How to transfer files from a ChatPC Silk or Alt-Chat to your new Nova Chat

Posted on 2012-09-24 09:39:23 by Admin under News

Are you making the switch to a new Nova Chat device but you don't want to recreate the vocabulary that you were using on your ChatPC Silk or Alt-Chat?  Don't fret, because you don't have to!  You can simply transfer your files from your old ChatPC device to your Nova Chat.  Here's how:

1.  Make sure you have transferred the file from your Alt-Chat or Silk into DesktopChat SE
2.  From DesktopChat SE, choose File > Export
3.  From the pop-up box, choose Export to File, then OK
4.  Choose the vocabulary file you wish to export, then select Export
5.  Give the file a name, then save it to the Nova Chat Editor Import Folder (this should be located on your desktop).  If it is not on your desktop, try locating it in the location below:
         – For XP users : My computer -> C drive (local drive) -> Documents and Settings -> Users ->
            Login  ID -> Application Data -> Saltillo Corporation -> Nova Chat Editor-> Import
         – For Vista/Windows 7 users: Start -> Computer -> C drive (local drive) -> Users -> Login ID ->
            AppData -> Roaming ->Saltillo Corporation -> Nova Chat Editor-> Import
6.  Open Nova Chat Editor (the transfer should automatically begin)
7.  Once the transfer is complete, go to Library > My Resources and choose your file
8.  Then you would simply transfer from Nova Chat Editor to your Nova Chat device
